Walgreens to Accept Third Webby Award This Week | Built In Chicago.

Chicago-based retailer Walgreens will be accepting its third Webby Award, which annually recognizes “excellence on the Internet,” this week.

This year, Walgreens won the Best Use of a Device Camera People’s Voice Awardfor its Transfer Prescriptions functionality, which was launched in March 2012. With this feature, users can transfer their prescriptions simply by taking a picture of their prescription bottles and entering relevant information such as name, date of birth and phone number.

“This functionality was designed to make it easier for customers to transfer prescriptions in only a few simple steps,” Mai Lee Ua, Walgreens senior manager of media relations, said. “The customer experience drives everything we do, so being selected by ‘the people’ for a functionality that’s useful in their everyday lives is very rewarding.”

Walgreens customers have continued to recognize the company through People’s Voice voting: in 2011, the company landed two People’s Voice Awards for Best Integrated Mobile Experience and for Mobile Shopping.

“This is our third Webby award since 2011 and we believe it’s a strong testament to our industry excellence and constant strive for innovation,” Ua said. “We know that the digital landscape is ever-changing and therefore, it’s critical for us to remain at the forefront by staying on top of the latest trends and efficiencies.”

Andrew Tidy, Walgreens director of mobile creative and user experience, will be accepting the award on behalf of his team this week. Tidy also led the Walgreens mobile team to win an Appy Award at SXSW this March for the best retailer app.

The Webby Awards, which is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, is taking place Tuesday in New York City; and you can watch the daylong award ceremony the very next day on demand atyoutube.com/thewebbyawards.
